The Missouri Immunization Coalition (MIC) is excited to announce the appointment of Lawrence Simonson as its new Executive Director. Simonson will join MIC with an impressive background in nonprofit leadership and a demonstrated commitment to public advocacy, having served for nearly 15 years at Local Motion, where he currently holds the role of Chief Executive Officer. Simonson will officially step down from his position at Local Motion on December 13, 2024, and begin his new role at MIC on December 16, 2024.

Throughout his career, Simonson has championed critical public health and safety initiatives, and he has been a vital force in creating equitable and accessible solutions in transportation for all Missourians. Known for his collaborative spirit, Simonson’s tenure at Local Motion saw transformative developments, such as the adoption of Columbia’s Vision Zero policy, the Livable Streets Resolution, and extensive trail system enhancements that connect communities across Columbia.

“I am deeply honored to join the Missouri Immunization Coalition and to lead its efforts to improve immunization rates across our state,” Simonson said. “Immunizations are a fundamental pillar of public health, and I am committed to advancing MIC’s mission to protect all Missourians from vaccine-preventable diseases. I look forward to collaborating with MIC’s passionate and dedicated partners and stakeholders to make Missouri healthier and safer for everyone.”

Lynelle Phillips, President of the MIC Board of Directors, expressed her enthusiasm for Simonson’s arrival: “Lawrence brings a wealth of experience in building coalitions and leading impactful advocacy initiatives. His strong leadership, collaborative approach, and dedication to equity make him the ideal leader for MIC. We are thrilled to welcome him as we continue to work towards our goal of increasing immunization awareness and rates across Missouri.”

Simonson’s leadership and expertise will be instrumental as MIC seeks to expand its reach and impact in the coming years.
